Polyethylene as well as Polypropylene belongs to the group of polyolefins. These are the mostly used plastics in the field of packaging. Polyolefins have the simplest molecular structure amongst all plastics. They consist of the atoms carbon and hydrogen and are produced through the polymerization of ethylene and propylene.

PE and PP belong to the group of thermoplastics and are recyclable and nontoxic materials. During their combustion process only carbon dioxide and water are produced.
